Previously he founded Islamorada Investment Management in 2008, and served as Managing Partner until the firm was acquired by Bastion in early 2025. Cale managed two fundamental value energy equity strategies at Islamorada. Prior to founding Islamorada, he served as the director of research at an independent equity research firm and senior equity analyst at a long-short hedge fund. Prior to becoming an equity analyst, and after serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Coast Guard, Mr. Smith was a project manager at the world’s first commercial internet service provider and managed business development at a radio frequency engineering firm. He has an M.B.A. in Operations from the College of William & Mary, and graduated with honors with a B.S. in Management from the United States Coast Guard Academy. Cale is a veteran military officer, and in 2000, he competed in U.S. Olympic rowing trials as a single sculler.
